Major concern, smuggling

Smuggling” is the main problem of apparel and textile industry in Iran.

According to the Headquarters to Combat Smuggling of Goods and Foreign Exchange, apparel tops the list of goods smuggled into Iran.

The total domestic apparel adds up to $10.5 billion, among which Iranian production meets only 40% of domestic demand and apparel smuggled into the country is worth over $6.2 billion (Research Center of Tehran’s Apparel Union).

The huge load of illegal apparel imports into the Iranian market to three main reasons: high prices of domestic products, inattention to current fashion trends and neglect of branding.

Domestic Market

Currently, 9,818 industrial units are active in Iran’s textile and apparel industries licensed by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, constituting 11% of all industrial entities in the country. These units have created more than 290,000 direct jobs, accounting for 13% of all industrial jobs in Iran.
